JANET'S
CROCHET ![]()
I taught myself the art of crocheting 6 years ago. Basically I followed patterns the first 3 years. I started out with yarn, making afghans for family and friends. Then one day decided to try my luck with thread. This I found more enjoyable than the yarn. Since then all I work with is the thread. Most of the items I have made, have been given to family and friends. In the last year, I have tried my hand at my own patterns, apparently this is something I am good at. I have sold two items that have been published, one is a 18 inch round doily, (Ruthie), renamed "Dusty Rose" to Crochet Fantasy Magazine. They published it in their August issue, #117, sale date for this magazine was June 24, 1997. The other item is a round center piece, (Floral Spray) which measures 28 1/2 inches. This I sold outright to American School of Needlework in August, 1996. They published it in August 1998, in "The BIG Book of Doilies", # 1262, and renamed it "Dreamer". At present, I have 2 tablecloths, 2 center pieces, and 2 end table doilies that have been submitted to different companies for publication. I wait to hear on their decisions.
I have been asked how do you get your work published? This can be a long and tedious undertaking, submitting and then resubmitting and some of the publishing houses can take as long as 8 -10 weeks to make their decision, then you have to resubmit to another publisher and wait for them, etc. I waitied for 6 months to hear from one and never did. They had all my photos and I had to take photographs of all the items again so I could resubmit to another publisher. Then if you are lucky enough that they want an item, then they can take as long as a year to publish it in their magazine. I just keep resubmitting and hoping for the best! But always take clear pictures of your work to show the design in it's best light, give the size of the work and what kind of thread you used. It wouldn't hurt to give a little background on yourself, how long you have been crocheting, why you feel your work is publishable, etc. Toot your own horn and back it with a good original design and you can't go wrong!!
I wish to offer my services to crochet for anyone that would like to have a piece of this art but may not know how to crochet themselves. Considering the fact that my work is good enough to be published in magazines, I feel my work would be greatly appreciated on the open market. Also, in the future I will be posting some pieces, that have been published, these will be my own patterns that got published, but not bought outright. My cost for crocheting will be considered by way of size and/or design. The harder a piece is the greater the cost. If you have a design or pattern you wish for me to use this will be fine or you can give me an idea of what it will be used for and we can go from there. Also, I recently have been given a stack of crochet books dated from the 40's and 50's, and I have the original pattern for the pansy doily, if you would be interested in obtaining a copy, send $1.00 and a self address envelope to the address below, this will off set the cost of Xeroxing and sending it back to you. Listed below are a few projects that I have accomplished and wish to sell:
